Programs
The Epilepsy Foundation of Texas offers a wide variety of programs and services. If you have any questions or would like to volunteer, please feel free to get in touch with us.
Children Services Programs
Providing families of children with epilepsy a variety of educational, recreational, support and advocacy services including:
- Camp Spike 'n' Wave® - a week long residential camp for children with seizures, aged 8-14.
- Kamp Kaleidoscope® - a camping experience designed especially to meet the concerns of teens with epilepsy, aged 15-19 years.
- Support Groups - Monthly meetings for parents and adults to share their concerns, experiences, and fears living with epilepsy.
- Teen Discussion Forum - interact with other teens living with epilepsy.
Adult Empowerment Programs
Providing adults with epilepsy clinic services, recreational opportunities, epilepsy education and assistance in accessing community resources.
- Support Groups - monthly meetings for adults and their families to share their concerns and experiences in living with epilepsy.
- Telemedicine Clinic - Medical and psychosocial services provided in association with University of Texas Medical Branch.
- Employment Program - Employment and training program for serious job seekers with epilepsy.
Information and Referral
Providing accurate epilepsy information and appropriate referrals to community agencies. A phone call provides clients with informative brochures and information about foundation programs. Please contact Liz Casagrande at lcasagrande@efset.org for more information.
Educating the public is one of the best ways to help people with epilepsy. We offer a variety of programs at no cost to the community including:
- Epilepsy Speaker's Bureau - A speaker can come to your place of business or group meeting to present information about epilepsy.
- H.O.P.E. Program (Helping Other People with Epilepsy)- Created to allow people who live with epilepsy to educate others through use of a concise program curriculum as well as their own words and personal experience. Programs may be tailored to accomodate specific audience need.
- Public Education Programs - Program topics range from different aspects of current treatments to living with epilepsy.
- Kids on the Block Puppet Program - Educates and entertains local school children (grades 3-5) about the day-to-day life of children with seizures.
- School Alert - Provides printed educational materials about epilepsy to school personnel.
Professional Education
Providing health and human service professionals medical information through printed material and specially designed seminars.
- Houston Epilepsy Update - a comprehensive symposium on epilepsy that provides continuing education credits for professionals in the Houston area.
- 2008 Epilepsy Symposium- Scheduled for August 22-23, 2008 at Cook Children's Hospital in Fort Worth.
Discount Medical Services
Members of the Epilepsy Foundation of Southeast Texas receive significant discounts on laboratory testing through all Houston-area Kelsey Seybold Clinics and Baylor College of Medicine. For more information, contact Ariana Campos at acampos@efset.org.
