Programs
Every hour 20 Americans are diagnosed as having epilepsy. More than twice as many Americans have seizure disorders (epilepsy) as have Parkinson's Disease, cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis and muscular dystrophy combined! Yet, none of these well-known diseases carry the powerful stigma associated with epilepsy.
The Epilepsy Foundation of South Central Wisconsin offers a wide assortment of programs and services to meet the needs of people in our area. If you have any questions, feel free to get in contact with us by calling (608) 442-5555 or (800) 657-4929.
Adult Education
We tailor presentations for professional groups or employers, including Epilepsy: A Positive ID for police, fire, EMT, and jail personnel, Take Another Look for police department roll calls, and the Status Epilepticus Project, a doctor-to-doctor training program.
Adult Retreat
Adults with epilepsy meet for a fall retreat with activities for people of all abilities: art therapy, a physical challenge course, climbing, hiking, boating, archery, and camp fire songs. Meet people from all over Wisconsin who have much in common, including the experience of seizures.
Advocacy
Case Management
When your situation is complicated, we can help you navigate the human service system and obtain other services for which you may qualify. Our staff can help insure proper communication between human service providers, medical staff, and employers or school personnel. We provide seizure recognition and first aid training whenever necessary.
Daily Living Skills Training
Learn how to be safe at home, at school, or at work when your seizure control is less than optimal. By looking at your seizure type and your injury history, we can help recommend techniques that will insure your safety and your ability to live well with epilepsy.
Emergency Assistance Program
Finding assistance for medical services or medication can be extremely difficult. We can provide modest assistance in an emergency situation and financial or employment counseling which addresses the underlying problem.
